Installing OpenLinux Getting Started Guide 41 Selecting the Installation Target The next installation screen (see Figure 20) determines where on your hard disk OpenLinux should be installed. FIGURE 20.  The installation program scans your hard disk and auto-selects where to install OpenLinux. You can alter this selection if desired. Before one of these options is auto-selected, you might notice the installation program scanning your hard disks to determine what partitions have been cre- ated. NOTE: No data is written during this scanning process! If a Linux partition is found, the Prepared Partition(s) option is auto- selected. If you have only one Linux partition that you have created using Parti- tionMagic (see Chapter 2) or another partitioning tool, you can proceed with the Prepared Partition(s) option by pressing Next. If no Linux partition can be found, the Entire Harddisk option is selected. You can continue with this option to use all of your hard disk, or use the Custom option to change where OpenLinux is installed. The Custom option enables you to define and select partitions for Open- Linux to use. This option requires some understanding of hard disk parti- tions and Linux device names. (Some of this information is provided in the Concepts Glossary section of this manual.) The following section describes how to use the Custom screen, which appears when you select Custom and choose the Next button.
